Tilt Maze Puzzle

This is one of my favorite puzzles, it’s a simple ball maze, that hangs from the ceiling, and requires two or more people to attach magnetised objects to each corner of the maze in order to manipulate the ball out.

The maze layout was designed at 3am on some scrap paper while watching the original RoboCop, not that this matters, but it’s a great movie.

I then had to transfer this incredibly awesome design into reality, which meant making an insane amount of mitered cuts and gluing it all together.

After staining the pine, attaching a stylish backing fabric and making up a frame with a poly-carbonate front, it was looking good.

I then made up a steel frame to mount the puzzle to, this was simple angle iron joined with a high tensile bolt between two nitto air fitting… the air fittings had the perfect inside diameter for the bolt, and their tapered end fitted snugly into the rod-end spherical bearing. This was then attached to some all-thread which was welded to a sturdy plate. Springs were attached to the corners of the puzzle to keep it centered. The whole in the corner is for dropping the ball into when you reset the puzzle.
